EPGP simplified:

Sigil uses the EPGP system for attendance and to determine loot allocation. All members are required to use this add-on which can be downloaded from the following address: EPGP Lootmaster

EPGP stands for Effort Points/Gear Points.

How EPGP works:

Effort Points:

EP is used to measure the amount of effort each member makes towards guild activities and goals. Sigil primarily awards EP for participation in our raids. We also award EP to people who are unable to get into our raids, but are online, ready to sub-in to our raid and respond to half-hourly ready-checks made in our special channel /Sigilqueue.

Gear Points:

GP is used to measure what loot each member gets back in return. Each item awarded to a member in our raids has a GP cost associated to it. When you have the EPGP add-on installed most GP costs are displayed in the tooltips for each item. You can use these as a rough guide to how much an item is worth, but please bare in mind some items may cost more EP due to their rarity, (this is especially true for trinkets).

Loot priority:

PR is used to help determine who gets priority on loot. PR is determined by dividing effort by reward (EP/GP = PR). Put simply, the more effort you put in the more gear you likely to receive.

Decay:

In order to award recent effort more than past effort, which in effect avoids PR hoarding for veterans and enables new coming and dedicated members of a guild to be awarded properly, EPGP supports a decay mechanism.

Decay simply removes a chunk of EP and GP from the totals, effectively leaving PR unchanged. For example with a decay of 10% applied each week, for each 7 days that pass your effort's rewards get diminished by 10%. This means that the effort you put 10 weeks ago will only be worth 34.8% of what it did when you received it.

A decay value of -10% is applied every Monday.

How much EP is awarded per night?

In a typical raid night starting at 7:45 PM when raid invites go out to 11:00 PM when the raid draws to a close your EP is rewarded as follows:

07:55 PM - 200 EP (this is the initial ready check)
08:00 PM - 100 EP
08:30 PM - 100 EP
09:00 PM - 100 EP
09:30 PM - 100 EP
10:00 PM - 100 EP
10:30 PM - 100 EP
11:00 PM - 200 EP (this is the final ready check)

Total EP = 1000 EP per night.

In a typical week, provided you attend all three raid nights, are on-time and present throughout the raid until the end, you will earn 3000 EP minus 10% decay which gives you a total of 2700 EP.

Maxium EP amounts:

Here's a list of how much EP a member can potentially earn over the course of 18 weeks (3 months), with perfect attendance and -10% decay applied:

Week 1: 2700
Week 2: 5130
Week 3: 7317
Week 4: 9285
Week 5: 11056
Week 6: 12650
Week 7: 14085
Week 8: 15376
Week 9: 16538
Week 10: 17584
Week 11: 18526
Week 12: 19373
Week 13: 20136
Week 14: 20822
Week 15: 21440
Week 16: 21996
Week 17: 22496
Week 18: 22946

Minimum EP requirements:

Min EP is currently set at 10,000 EP.

This is more, or less an attendance check for existing members and a target for new recruits to reach, before they are eligible for loot priority. Anyone below the minimum of 10,000 EP has in effect lower priority then everyone above it, even if their effective PR is higher.

We use a minimum EP threshold to ensure members who turn up on a consistent basis have a higher priority for loot than those who don't.

How we use EP to help organize raids:

A raiding guild will undoubtedly have more members than are able to take part in an actual raid. We aim to fill our raids as fairly, but as practically as we can. Your EP score acts record of attendance and we place a higher priority of allowing people with more EP than those with a lower EP score.

However, it is not the only factor on whether a member will get into a raid or not. We must also consider the raid composition to ensure we have the required number of people in specific roles i.e. Tanks, Healers, Melee DPS and Ranged DPS. While there is a certain amount of flexibility to juggle the numbers of Melee and Ranged DPS for example, there is far less flexibility to change the number of tanks and healers required.

We also need to assess new recruits in a raid environment. Therefore, we endeavor to bring them in for at least 3 raids of the 9 they are required to be available for during their trial period. To achieve this we usually aim to sit-out members with the lowest EP scores, but dependent on the new recruit's role we may ask specific people to sit regardless of their EP score.

Earning EP when not in the raid:

When a member or new recruit is not able to participate in the raid directly, we allow them to earn EP for their attendance by waiting online and responding to EP checks.

EP checks are sent every 30 minutes via the add-on to our channel /Sigilqueue. They are designed to ensure that you are online and ready to enter the raid at a moments notice should we call on you. When an EP ready check is performed you simply need to send the officer initiating the check the response "epgp standby". The add-on accounts that you may be on an alt while waiting and if so you can send the response "epgp standy [your main's name]" replacing [your main's name] with your actual main character's name.

We allow people who turn-up late to earn EP for the portion of the night they are available. But we do not award EP for not being online, or not being capable of actually raiding for any reason.

You should not ask another person to make EP checks on your behalf. Nor, You should you try to claim EP because your computer is not working, your account has been hacked, or your internet connection is not working, or for any other reason that may prevent you from actually raiding.

If anyone is caught trying to unfairly claim EP on their own behalf, or someone else's behalf they will be penalized.

Further Questions?

Hopefully this post will answer most of the questions about how EPGP works. However, if you do have further questions about it please do not hesitate to ask me.
