Sigil Guild Recruitment FAQ:

If you're reading this, it's probably because an officer, or member pointed you here after you approached us in-game. We are not trying to be impersonal, but we do get many similar questions about our guild.

If there's anything you want to know which is not addressed within this forum, speak with any of our officers: Elidion, Jandrine, Laika, Nycteus, Therealcapn, Threalwasabi, Vitesse, or our Guild Master: Sanno.

About Sigil:

As a guild, we are primarily interested in end-game raiding. We are fundamentally motivated by the desire to see endgame content, and refine the quality of a raid team that is constantly prepared to challenge new content. We take a slightly different approach than some other guilds. Our primary focus is a cohesive guild community of people who are committed to to the guild and to its members, based on the belief that raid success grows out of that (and that raid success achieved by any other means can be fleeting at best).

What we are looking for in a new recruit:

When we recruit, we are recruiting a person, not a game character. If your gear isn't yet where you want it to be, it's less important than if you think you're right for this guild. Similarly, no amount of gear or raid experience can guarantee that you'll be someone we want.

We may be the right guild for you if:

• you are a serious PvE player aiming for a 3-day raid schedule.
• you take an active interest in strategy, and maximizing the quality and efficiency of a raid group.
• you are the sort of person who enjoys guild-chat, forums, Ventrilo, and who participates in a guild, outside of raid times.
• you conduct yourself in a mature and polite manner and look for a guild environment of similar people.
• you are looking to be dedicated team-player who will work towards long-term goals and achievements, with like-minded individuals.

We may not be the right for you if:

• you'll only be happy in the sort of group that raids 6 days a week in an effort to stay "at the top"
• you don't truly take interest in understanding the nuances of your class's possible contribution to a raid.
• your aim is primarily to gear up your own character in whatever way possible

How we organize our raids:

Our 25-man raid days are Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday. Auto invites are initiated at 7:45 PM and raids run from 8:00–11:00 PM.

Invites to our 25-man raids are primarily based on your attendance. As such, new recruits and new members are not guaranteed frequent invites into the most advanced raids. We value dedication and commitment above all else – if you're really looking for a long-term place to play, then having to start at the bottom of an organized structure is a small and reasonable price to pay for the future prospect of a central guild role. We do however, aim to get our new members experience and gear as quickly and efficiently as possible. This somewhat makes up for having to start in a more backup role for important raids – the veterans know that the new members are the future of the guild, and are earnestly interested in helping you progress forwards.

We also organize 10-man raids on non-25-man raid nights and details of these can be found in the Event Forum.

How we award loot:

We use the EPGP system and add-on.

EPGP stands for Effort Points/Gear Points.

Effort Points (EP) will be earned by showing up and being prepared for raids.
Gear Points (GP) will be awarded to anyone that receives loot during a given raid night.
Priority Rating (PR) is computed as the quotient of the two: so PR = EP/GP.

What all this means is that as you attend a raid and continue to be present throughout the duration of that raid, you will earn EP. Every time you receive loot you will be given a predetermined amount of GP. The ratio of these numbers is known as PR (priority rating). As you loot gear, your GP total will increase, thus decreasing your overall PR (priority) allowing gear to be distributed among the raid fairly. Even if you are not part of a raid you will still earn EP by joining our standby list and responding to roll calls.

A more detailed explanation of how we use this system can be found within our member forums.

Ventrillo:

We use Ventrillo for communication and co-ordination of our raids and to somewhat of a social capacity, outside of raids. We expect every raider to at least listen during our raids, even if they are not able to speak on Ventrillo.

Server-name/Port/Password details are listed in the guild information tab which you can access once you have been invited to the guild.

Our Forums:

We have very active forums and you will be granted full forum access once you have been invited to the guild.

How do I apply to join Sigil?

Start by reading through the questions in in our blank application form.
Copy the post, and answer the questions as you see fit in the spaces provided. Take time to understand the questions and think of your responses before you write and post your application. We pay a lot of attention to your initial written application and how you respond to our questions. You can either apply publicly in our application forum area, or you can privately send an application to an Officer. Any private applications will be considered confidential, only officers will be able to read them and we will not make the fact you have applied to our guild public.

Once you have submitted an application you may be asked further questions by an officer, or members, which we would like you to respond to. Once we think we have enough information from your written responses we will either invite you to talk to our officers in-game, or reject your application via the forum.

Your Trial Period:

If you successfully pass the formal interview in-game with our officers you will be invited to a three-week trial, or roughly 10 raids. This is a probation period in which a newcomer can decide if this guild is a good fit for her/him, or in which we can decide if the newcomer is a good fit for us.

Recruits will be promoted to full Raider rank on successful completion of their trial period. If for some reason you fail the trial period, we will inform you of the reasons via your application thread in the recruitment forum.

Thank you for taking the time to read through this FAQ and if there's anything you want to know which is not addressed here, please speak with any of our officers: Elidion, Jandrine, Laika, Nycteus, Therealcapn, Threalwasabi, Vitesse, or our Guild Master: Sanno.
